Photos from Blessing of the Backpacks!

Hello Team!
I wanted to share some photos and comments on our wonderful display that helped kick off the new year school year at APC!
  • Addie donated the apples and the rulers
  • Sandy provided the crayons, vintage crayon boxes and time to set up!
  • Shelley brought in a backpack and helped with setup as well
  • Cindy provided red and yellow fabric to go with the blue I had from Advent
  • Jenna Dhayer provided her cute little school desk for display
  • CLC provided the rug and the Little Tikes bus
  • I provided the blue fabric, the chalkboard, clipboard, and setup time (that desk was heavy!)
  • The hand print communion table runner was created by the kids @ VBS last year as a community project.
  • The lunchbox, whiteboard, typography skills, and set up time were provided by Melissa Frye.
  • The Pencil Cross was dynamically designed by Melissa, looks fantastic and made the table. I would like to have this displayed in the Narthex if not on the cross wall then somewhere!

Great Job =) Thanks to all that had a hand in creating this colorful start to the new school year!

Presbytery Print Newsletter... APC is the Houston Experience for WDS Experience

Hello Team!
Wanted to pass on this exciting email about APC hosting Worship Design in November. Click on the link and have a look at the schedule of events, there is something for everyone. This email was to Mary Marcotte, Presbytery of the New Covenant.

Mary - So great to meet you at the ECG Conference! I look forward to being “in your neck of the woods” in November!

Thank you for the opportunity to get you some information about my upcoming event in your area for the print newsletter for Sept/Oct. I hope that many churches will take advantage of this opportunity. It is a format that has found great success in terms of resourcing and training lay persons in the worship arts in very concrete ways.

The direct link to the information about the Worship Design Studio Experience hosted by the Atascocita church is:

The link to my calendar page where it is also listed is:  www.marciamcfee.com (click on “Calendar”)
Feel free to use either one of these links, or both, in the notice.

Special Series of Workshops on Worship in our Area - Create and Train a Worship Arts Team
Dr. Marcia McFee is a nationally-known worship designer, professor and consultant. In the last 24 years she has helped churches create more vital and sensory-rich worship, no matter the size of church or style of worship. Atascocita Presbyterian Church in Humble will be hosting the Worship Design Studio Experience, a series of workshops with Dr. McFee that churches may register for and send unlimited numbers of people to be trained in all the worship arts as well as how to “plan together and plan ahead” for a more creative  process of worship design. The workshops are scheduled weekly from November 1-December 2. Registered churches will also receive recordings of all the workshops for those that missed the sessions and for their continued training use. For more information and to register: www.marciamcfee.com (Click on the “Calendar” link) or: https://ny163.infusionsoft.com/app/page/houstonexperience

If you need any more information, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I’ve attached a couple of photos to choose from here in case you have room to include one.

I would love to talk further about how we can reinforce the invitation through your electronic communication with your churches.

Peace & passion,
Marcia McFee, Ph,D.

Blessing of the Backpacks ~ August 24, 2014 & Joseph Scripture

Thanks to everyone that came to the meeting on Wednesday... It was awesome to see such a good turn out! I wanted to recap a few things and share something as well.

  • Blessing of the Backpacks: We need apples, rulers, crayons... we can use the glass pillars to decorate the communion table again. I will bring some of the blue fabric, and Camryn suggested red & yellow. My neighbor has an old school desk, I will get that from her this weekend. I have a small chalkboard I can bring.
  • Pencil Cross: Melissa Frye will be creating a one of a kind Communion table cross made out of pencils. She also says she has plenty of teachers things she can contribute to decorating.
  • SetUp: Tuesday, August 19th @ 2:00pm
Please feel free to bring anything that you think might add to the design, don't feel like you have to bring everything! This will be up for that Sunday and then will need to come down.

Matthew Scripture water design will need to be stuck before, that can be done after service or wait till setup on Tuesday.

Meeting Today!

Good Morning APC WAC!

We will be meeting tonight at 5pm to discuss September worship. If you can make it, please do... we will be meeting in the same conference room.

I wanted to pass out some compliments on our beautiful set up for Matthew 14:22-33! I heard some good responses to what we put together... it was very pretty. There were quite a few people that said they walked in and looked to see the banners and they were gone. They were then lead to the table and saw the wonderful outdoor water fountain river we had created. Compliments were made on the materials that were used, it seemed to go over very well! Thanks to everyone that brought items to stage this setting. It will be left up for this Sunday's worship and then will come down after.

I may not be at this Sunday's service... Sandy Lee has been given instructions as to what to do with the items. The shells on the stage belong to Camryn, so she will bag those up for me. The shells on the communion table are Nancy's, and the bags for those are in the closet by the choir, that is also where the white fabric is stored. I brought the blue green fabric, and the 3 big glass pillars and candles. The oars belong to Jamie Hannan, candles are from Jackie's office & the candelabra in the area by the Sanctuary doors. Cindy brought the small glass pillars from HAAM, ask were she would like those stored. Please fold the blue painted fabric carefully, some of the paint was still a little wet from the water fountain. Oh, and the fountain... Thanks Sandy! That was such a nice touch =)

For Blessing of the Backpacks: I am thinking we will use the glass pillars again... we will discuss.

Ladder: We will go with the Model 21 Skyscaper by Little Giant... I really think a tall A-frame would help in hanging on the monoliths without leaning on the structure, and it could be used to get to the very top of the monoliths with our taller members. The extension that is already behind the monoliths can reach the windows to the sides, and the A-frame could too.

ENJOY THE PHOTOS...
